Being Healed!

One can be healed.   Yet, this does not mean that the person is whole and fully alive.  God creates us spirit, body, mind.

I am not an accomplished Greek scholar.  The one year of Greek in seminary gave me enough knowledge to be dangerous – in a good way (Thank you George Kalantzis for your passionate teaching) .   In the Bible the Greek word, iomai, is translate as healed, meaning a disease or ailment is gone or cured.  Interestingly, the Greek word, sozo, is often translated as healed, but also saved, well, whole, and rescue from death to name a few.   As my back continues to heal, move to being physically cured, I have been focusing more of my attention onto the healing of my whole being – sozo: spirit, body, mind.   Jesus said he came that we could have life to the fullest, free indeed – sozo life.

I’ve been spending more time listening, being silent, fasting, walking a labyrinth, reading Scripture, praying in ways that are not part of my regular routine, walking outside observing, etc. – intentionally becoming open to the love of God in Jesus Christ to bring sozo to my whole being:  spirit, body, mind.

On one hand it is hard to do.  It takes a great deal of perseverance and stick-to-it-ness.  I’d rather be watching old episodes of M.A.S.H, etc. much of the time.  On the other hand, it is easy for me to get  self-critical and preoccupied with how well or not well I’m doing at this.

I’m discovering that all healing is through God’s grace.  It is not up to my “doing” certain practices or not at certain times for a certain number of times.  It is much more of an organic journey that occurs as I walk forward in an intimate relationship with God in Jesus Christ.  Within that relationship I am drawn/invited into new ways of openness to Christ’s sozo healing.   The journey is my healing and my healing is my journey with Christ.

  1. So good to read your well spoken words – like a sermon in a blog 😊. Change is never easy however it is a fact of life. Continue on your path. I miss seeing you at church and will look forward to your return.
With a prayer right now for both you and Paula,
